Camp Fire Mountain

Every year the troop goes to one of the Boy Scout summer camps in the area. This year, we returned to Camp Fire Mountain from August 2^nd to the 8^th. Scouts got to attend merit badge classes, go swimming or boating in the lake, shoot rifles, and go on the ropes course. At the end of the week, there was a big relay race that our troop had a team in, and camp-wide games. Summer camp is probably the best part of scouting.

Ape Caves

On the 18th of July, 7 scouts and 5 adults went on an outing to Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument. First, they went to the Johnston Ridge Observatory, then camped overnight. In the morning, they met with the survivors J of the Mount Saint Helens 50 miler to go hike through Ape Caves, a 2.47 mile long lava tube. This was a very fun outing, and it was very cool to hike in the caves.

Mt. St. Helens 50 Mile Hike

From the 13th to thru the 19th of July, 11 scouts and 3 adults climbed and circumnavigated Mt. St. Helens. On the first day, the group summited and came back to their campsite at Climber's Bivouac. On day two, they broke camp and started the circumnavigation, and they returned to Climber's Bivouac on the 18th, one day early, in order to go into Cougar and have celebratory cheeseburgers. There they camped one more night to wait for the Ape Caves outing. It was tough, but a lot of fun and those cheeseburgers tasted so good.

Aviation Day

On the 16th of May, scouts had an opportunity to go to Alaska Airlines Aviation Day, where they could learn about careers in the aviation industry and earn the aviation merit badge. They attended presentations about careers like air traffic controllers and flight attendants, saw the insides and cockpits of different planes, learned about the physics that make a plane work, and flew in flight simulators. All in all it was a fun trip and a good learning experience.

Camporee

This year,Troop 626 attended the annual Cascade district Camporee at Camp Edwards, which happened on May 1st through the 3rd. As the theme was Lord of the Rings, we assembled a battering ram for the special event. Although the troop did not win any awards, we got to cook a lot of good meals, practice important scout skills, and had a lot of fun!

Camp Casey

On March 28th and 29th, the troop had an overnight outing to Camp Casey, an old military fort on Whidbey Island. The scouts got to explore the old base, play capture the flag, and sleep in the barracks. One scout described it as "A really good experience, as the fort was really fun and I'm glad I went."

Scouting for Food

On the 14th and 21st of March, we did our annual Scouting for Food service project, benefiting Hopelink. On the first day, scouts ran around the Eastgate neighborhood delivering flyers to request that people leave out food to donate, so that they could pick it up next week. Here's al the food we got.
